Our South-of-the-Border Sauce is an easy green chili sauce that can be made ahead and rewarmed when you're ready to use it! It's high in flavor and light enough for healthy eating, so go ahead and brush it over your favorite proteins and veggies!
What You'll Need
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2
cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 10 1/2
tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 10 1/2
cups 98% fat-free chicken broth
- 1 can (4-ounce) chopped green chilies with liquid
- Ground cumin to taste
What to Do
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in flour; cook until mixture bubbles, stirring occasionally. Cook 1 additional minute.
- Gradually stir in broth and bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Add green chilies and cumin; simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Serve or cover and chill until ready to serve. If chilled, reheat before using.
