Instead of baking, can cooking like pancakes work?
Test Kitchen Team
Jul 27, 2020
Hi! The Test Kitchen has not tried cooking like a pancake on stove. We are not sure if it will work because the cloud bread batter is very different than pancake batter and might not hold up cooking on a griddle or skillet. Hope this helps!

It did not work. Burned fast. Glad I only tried one.

I make this all the time! It is great for egg salad or tuna. I just saw someone who said to add spices or seeds to it and I am going to try that next!

I really like the taste and it is easy to make. Great for low carb bread, which is so hard to find.

I am going to try this recipe. Thanks to the Mr. Food Test Kitchen for an alternative to bread. Question Can I use vegetable oil instead of cooking spray to coat the baking sheets? If so, how much?
Test Kitchen Team
Jul 03, 2017
Hi there! The Test Kitchen says that if you would like to use vegetable oil in this recipe, we recommend dipping a paper towel in the oil and then spreading it on the pan. Enjoy!

What an excellent alternative for sandwiches. I love to eat sandwiches, but I am supposed to have less than seven carbs a day and this would really help me meet those goals. I think this is something that even my kids might like. I can see adding spices to it or some seeds and making a different taste and texture completely for something different like sesame seeds for hamburger buns.

why did this come out flat and tasteless?
Test Kitchen Team
Jan 31, 2017
Hi there! The Test Kitchen says that this recipe may have come out flat if the eggs were not beaten long enough. We also would like to let you know that this bread is plain but when filled with your favorite tasty fixins will taste delicious. :) Enjoy!

Just going to make them, but can I leave out the sugar, I don't want to use any at all, do you think this will change the recipe signicantly?

Can you use low fat cream cheese, or is it regular cream cheese?
Test Kitchen Team
Jul 08, 2016
Hi there! The Test Kitchen has not made this recipe with reduced-fat or low-fat cream cheese. We believe that they are not equivalent substitutes and will affect the outcome of the recipe. Thanks!

Really like this. Flavor is bland but so is white bread. The 2nd time I made this, I added 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning blend to the egg yolk mixture before adding to the beaten egg whites. It made a good sandwich with light cream cheese and tomatoes. Next time I plan to add cinnamon or a pumpkin pie spice blend. I really like having something healthy besides lettuce to put my sandwich makings on.

I have made this twice and both times they have come out flat. The first time I didn't separate the eggs, and didn't have cream of tartar. This time I did it exactly the way the recipe said and still flat. I would really like to get these to come out right as I am trying to cut down on carbs. Any suggestions?

Hello! - We're sorry to hear you're having trouble with this recipe. We suggest making sure that the eggs are beaten until stiff, and gently folded in. Do not stir your ingredients too vigorously, and do not over stir. We hope this helps!

It was very easy to make, and they looked like the picture, but mine came out very crumbly around the edges and tasted like a too eggy meringue. Not sure what I did wrong, or it's just not what I expected. Any suggestions would be welcome.

These are easy and so good. They are somewhat sticky, leaving a residue on my fingers. My husband got the bright idea of drizzling a touch of honey and cinnamon on top and eating them with a fork. Makes a great dessert!

Can this be put in a bread pan rather than baked in rounds? Think that might be more convenient for baking and making sandwiches, etc.
Test Kitchen Team
Mar 03, 2015
Unfortunately, this cannot be put into a bread pan. This recipe is a delicate recipe that needs to be baked in individual rounds.

Does the sugar have to be used in this recipe? Does the sugar make an effect on the outcome, or is it for flavor purposes only? I hate sweet so I would like to omit if possible. Thanks, Jen

Mar 03, 2015
Hi Jen! You can leave the sugar out of the Cloud Bread. It's in the recipe for flavor purposes. Enjoy!
